After running Messenger Reviver, I launched MSN Messenger and it reported that I was logged into MSN Messenger from 2 different places - - I wasn't. Today it reported I was logged into Messenger from 3 different places.. I found this very disconcerting, and decided to uninstall Reviver, however, there is no Uninstaller and it does not appear in Add/Remove Programs. To get rid of it I had to do a System Restore to a date prior to installing Reviver. This also returned MSN Messenger to its dysfunctional state. I do not trust Reviver.
Dump MSN Messenger and use Pidgin instead. Reply by jevin. 7 on June 5, 2. If you are logged into hotmail, now outlook.. IM log in since they are connected. Just signout of other places if not on one computer with IM going. Reply by TRe. Ki. ETails on June 3, 2. Continued from other reply.. If you wish, another "trick" you can use to sign in without Reviver (although it has it's downsides, but it would be fine for testing purposes) is to set Messenger into compatibility mode for Server 2. This should let you sign in and then you can verify what I'm telling you without Reviver ever having touched your machine. Lastly, I just want to add that some web searching of me, the author, will show that I've been supporting Messenger for over 1. I wouldn't tarnish my reputation by disrespecting users in the way you're inferring. My reputation is the only thing I've gained in 1. I'm solely driven by the love of a product that Microsoft has seen fit to throw away.- Jonathan Kay. Reply by TRe. Ki. ETails on June 3, 2. Reviver does not "steal passwords" or whatever you're trying to imply. It modifies Messenger as one- time event and does not run again. There's nothing to uninstall because nothing has been installed or is running. The issue you are describing is how Messenger has worked for years when you go to Hotmail/Outlook or various other MSN sites. The Web Messenger on the website signs you in and you will receive a notification in Messenger that you've signed in at another location. Every new page loaded or reloaded will sign you in again, which is why you saw at least three. They time out after a few minutes. The reason why you probably haven't seen this before yourself, is that Microsoft only just made Outlook. Hotmail allowed this Web Messenger behaviour as optional. In Outlook. com however, you cannot turn of the Web Messenger and it will automatically sign you in. I have some suggestions to work around this problem on my blog if you're interested.
